COURT OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and following all recommended guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maryland Department of Health.The Bankruptcy Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland have issued orders limiting operations, suspending various proceedings, and extending certain deadlines.

Courthouse Operations / Emergency Matters
The Clerk’s office remains open to the public through telephone access and the drop boxes located in each courthouse’s lobby. Drop box hours are 9:00 a.m. until midnight in Baltimore and 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Greenbelt. CM/ECF will continue to be available for electronic filings. Any emergency matters, including first day motions as necessary, should be filed consistent with past practice and brought to the attention of the courtroom deputy for the presiding judge or the clerk of court.

Deadlines
“Filing deadlines” that expire between March 16, 2020 and June 5, 2020 have, in most instances, been extended, with certain important exceptions. Please refer to the Court’s Current Operational Status for a summary of the filing deadline extensions as set forth, or explained, in:

Appointment of Lori Schultz Simpson as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland is pleased to announce that Lori Schultz Simpson has been appointed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Maryland. Revision of Certain Dollar Amounts in Appendix F

In accordance with the provisions of Appendix F to the Local Rules for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, and the procedures therein, certain dollar amounts in Appendix F shall be adjusted on April 1, 2016. The new dollar amounts reflect a 3.016 percent increase, rounded to the nearest $25. Please click here to view Appendix F applicable to cases filed on or after April 1.

Passing of Ellen W. Cosby, Chapter 13 Trustee, February 25, 2016

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland mourns the passing of Chapter 13 Trustee Ellen W. Cosby. Ms. Cosby was an institution in the Baltimore Courthouse and the consumer bankruptcy community. She cared deeply about the debtors who passed through her office, and understood the life changing nature of a fresh start. She also held immense respect for the bankruptcy system and brought integrity to every step of the Chapter 13 process. Services will be held on Monday, February 29th, 2:30 pm. at the Chapel at Stella Maris, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, Maryland.

Judge Mannes’ Cases Reassigned to Judge Keir

All bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings previously assigned to the Honorable Paul Mannes have been reassigned to the Honorable Duncan W. Keir. Unless noticed otherwise, all hearings will be held in the Greenbelt Division at the Federal Courthouse located at 6500 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, Maryland, in Courtroom 3-D.
